Subversion, schism and reformation

Apparently the inevitable has happened this last week at the Baptist Union, as it has in so many denominations in the western world. Although I only have the story through a casual conversation, it seems as if a group has introduced a motion for the Union to allow the ordination of openly gay ministers, although there is as yet no official change in policy even on the 2014 affirmation of traditional marriage. In response, a petition has been started in defence of the historical view of marriage. Fisticuffs will follow.

Is Boris Johnson being more liberal regarding COVID because he’s under political pressure from scandal, or is he under political pressure from scandal because he’s being more liberal regarding COVID? Certainly Britain, and specifically England as opposed to the devolved regions, is an outlier amongst the western nations in dispensing with mask mandates, vaccine passports and so on.

Not the Language of God

And whilst in accusatory mode… As a former follower of the theistic evolution outfit BioLogos for a decade, and indeed having written an article for it long ago, I have previously expressed some misgivings about the apparent role of founder Francis Collins in the gain-of-function studies at Wuhan, and their subsequent cover up by major US players like Peter Daszak and Anthony Fauci. Since then the “mainstream” view has shifted towards a lab leak being more likely than not, making Collins’s involvement even more of an issue.
